August Newsletters

Welcome to the August edition of the Nido Marketing Newsletter. We have another edition packed full with useful articles, tips and news.

Al Digby gives an overview of how relationship marketing can make you stand out from the crowd and hold on to your clients for longer. As usual we have a guest article, this month contributed by Sales Engine who offer up some tips on how to get your sales pitch just right. We have a rundown from this year’s Nido Fun day and all the latest Nido News and lastly a series of useful videos which outline the digital tools your business should be using right now. Enjoy!

Why is relationship marketing important?

OK we all know that times are tough, budgets are stretched and businesses everywhere are feeling the pinch. You could be forgiven for thinking there is little positivity left as we’re constantly bombarded with stories of doom and gloom every time we open a browser or switch on the television. Ultimately we are all being forced to look closely at how we operate and asses how we can improve, consolidate and streamline to help the bottom line. Marketing is one area that companies can mistakenly sacrifice when faced with adversity but this can be extremely costly and lead to your competitors increasing their market share and clients not receiving the service they deserve.

Leadership and Management Funding

Leadership and Management Specialist Advisory Service

Receive up to £1000 of funding to help your business grow!

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has been providing Leadership and Management funding to businesses for several years.

The programme has now evolved as a Specialist Advisory Service with new eligibility criteria that opens up the offer to previously ineligible organisations. Now even more employers will have access to funded training that enhances their leadership and management skills and in turn nurtures business growth.

What is the Leadership and Management Programme

The programme, funded by the Learning and Skills Council, is specifically aimed at business owners/managers responsible for the direction of an organisation, including private, franchise, public and voluntary bodies employing between 5 and 249 staff.

Each employer can benefit from up to £1,000 of grant support. The first £500 does not require a contribution from the employer and should be used for key directors. If you want a further subsequent £500 it must be ‘match funded’ by the employer and is available for key members of management.

How to qualify

To be eligible for the programme your organisation must:

- Employ between 5 to 249 people
- Not already have received Leadership & Management funding support (under Train to Gain)
- Must be from an EU country, or have lived in an EU country for the last 3 years

NOTE: Funding was previously unavailable to businesses that had attained the Investor in People standard. Now funding is available irrespective of whether you have the standard or not.

How it works

A Specialist Adviser will carry out a free impartial Individual Needs Analysis and help you develop a Personal Action Plan which clearly identifies your requirements. Together with your Adviser you will agree on the best solutions to meet the development needs you have identified.

When you have undertaken your training you can apply to have the costs reimbursed up to a total of £1000 (including VAT).

For more info contact Clive Bonny
clive@consult-smp.com telephone 0208 876 4211 or on his mobile 07973 799153.

Clive designs and delivers programmes for clients onsite to avoid costs of absence and can refer you to a broker for your grant.

Stress within the workplace

Identifying and helping to relieve stress in the workplace

With everything that is going on in the world around us it’s hard not to feel the strain. Recession, tightening our belts, budget cut-backs, redundancies, hitting targets, the list goes on and so does the stress that goes with it.

BUT it doesn’t have to be like that…

Studies from the ISMA (International Stress Management Association) showed that 48% of people said that stress was caused due to lack of management commitment.

That means that nearly half of all stress could be prevented by management being more aware and committing to help their team cope in testing times. For all you ‘old school’ managers out there whose opinion is that people should just ‘get on with it’ and ‘stop complaining’ being more aware of the implications of stress could push it up your list of priorities. As a result of not dealing with this, your company could well suffer from low morale and quality of work leading to a higher staff turnover, higher recruitment and training fees, reduced productivity and hence lower revenue.

NOT DEALING WITH STRESS WILL COST YOU MONEY!!

An astounding 12.8 million working days a year are now lost to work-related stress alone, with 58% of workers complaining of job stress - UK HSE report

So, to start with a few simple things to look out for…

● People being a bit short tempered and irritable
● Deteriorating work relationships
● Increased sick days for things like headaches, stomach aches etc
● Complaints of lack of sleep

This may all seem very obvious but when people are stressed they can act strangely and it can be easier to just ignore it and hope it will go away. If managers are feeling the strain too – which I am sure you all are – looking out for the well being of your team may just seem like another thing you are responsible for… and you are….

HOWEVER it’s not all doom and gloom – we are all in it together and this doesn’t mean we all don’t enjoy a challenge, something to get out teeth into and really drive us.
It’s about balance – having the support needed to deal with demands and knowing that there is meaning to what is being done as well as an interest.

After all, can anyone honestly say they have never felt the strain? Have any of us just sailed through work without any worries?

So what can be done? At Nido we hope to prevent the team suffering from stress in the workplace… we may have slipped up in the past but we make a real effort to support and look out for each other. Things we do include:

● Daily team catch ups
● Drinks in the office every Friday afternoon – a bit more relaxed than usual…
● Monthly team outings
● Great offices!! (High ceilings, full front windows, plants…)
● Real, quality coffee machine
● Duvet day allowance for those days when you might just fancy a day at home
● Monthly staff outings
● Pinball machine

So what do you do to combat stress at work?

Whether an employee or an employer everyone has their own ways of handling the pressure - Let us know what you are doing and let’s all help each other to remain positive in these challenging times.

    And the Winner is........

Congratulations to Ann Dieckmann, Managing Director of Brighton based medical communications company Facilitate, who was the lucky winner of a Nintendo Wii after taking part in our customer satisfaction survey.

At Nido we like to practice what we preach so back in January we conducted a customer satisfaction survey to gain valuable feedback from our clients on the services we offer. We have learnt from experience that your customers can be instrumental to adapt and improve your service and therefore retention rate.

As part of the survey clients could win a Nintendo Wii if they gave us a testimonial, all the companies that took part were put into a hat and the winner drawn at random by Jacky Misson. Luckily for Ann her name emerged as the winner and you can read her testimonial on our website: http://www.nidomarketing.co.uk/facilitate.html

Thanks to everyone that took part in the survey, your participation is much appreciated by all the Nido Marketing team.

    Client Retention & Customer Satisfaction

When times are tough, it is more important than ever that businesses provide the best possible service to their customers to ensure they don’t lose them to competitors. Research has shown that 80% of companies believe they provide a superior client experience but only 8% of their clients agree*.Finding out how our customers feel about us means that not only can we adapt and improve our service and therefore our retention rate, it can also give us the chance to up-sell or cross-sell to a marketing that already knows and trusts us. At Nido we have seen a growing number of companies approaching us to help discover their clients’ perceptions of their service and delivery levels. Finding out weak spots, areas for improvement or what clients really value about them can all help to reduce attrition or defection to competitors. Read Full Article »

THE LAYLANAS SUPPORT ALABAMA 3 AT THE BRIXTON JAM

Nido Marketing's very own Ollie Wickham will be grazing the stage of the Brixton Jam supporting Alabama 3 with his band The LayLanas!

The LayLanas are the headlining support for Alabama 3 (They did the title music for the Sopranos) at the Brixton Jamm and are on at midnight.

Hailing from Brighton, The Laylanas, fronted by songwriting duo Lana McDee and Sandra Lea broke into the local scene in 2008, giving UK country music a much-needed tweak. Lana McDee’s voice is reminiscent of southern country singers such as Alison Krauss and Tammy Winette, as well as having the modern pop innocence found in singers such as Tori Amos, with the charming darkness of Jolie Holland or Lucinda Williams. Augmented by cheerful southern-style guitar riffs, got-to-whistle chorus’s and solid, fluent harmonies
